## Basic Gates using Universal Gates:

The main feature of NAND and NOR gates is that basic knots of NOT, OR and AND can be made from these two universal gates. Examples are given below-

## Method of making NAND gate from NOT gate:

By connecting the two inputs of NAND gate together, using it as a single input will produce the complement of the input as the output, i.e. it behaves like a NOT gate. For example, if the input is A, the output will be A.

## Method of making NAND gate from OR gate:

NAND gates act like OR gates if their complements are used instead of inputs. For example, if A is applied to the input of two NAND gates and B is applied to the input of the other, their output will be A and B respectively. Now if A and B are used as the input of a third NAND gate, the final output is like an OR gate (A + B).

## Method of making NAND gate from AND gate:

A NAND gate has two inputs A and B and the output is A.B. If two such A.B are given as input to a NAND gate, its output is like AND gate (A.B).

## Method of making NOR gate from NOT gate:

In a NOR gate, if the two inputs are the same, the output is always the complement of the input. In this case if the input is A then the output will be the complement of A i.e. A.

## Method of making NOR gate from OR gate:

NOR gate has two inputs A and B and the output is A+B. If two such A+B are given as inputs to another NOR gate, its output is (A+B) like an OR gate.

## Method of making NOR gate from AND gate:

NOR gates act like AND gates if their complements are used instead of the inputs of NOR gates. For example, A is applied to the input of one of two NOR gates and B is applied to the input of the other. Their outputs will be A and B respectively.
